With Suburban since 2003 Inspired by natures aesthetics and traditional Renaissance Cristina's works are driven to portray a sense of purity derived from beauty.They consist of abstract landscapes and seascapes,figurative works and contemporary abstracts.
My work is inspired by texture. I am fascinated by natural and man made surfaces that surround me, from an eroded billboard to the face of a dessert rock. My paintings are infused with influential references of word, song and momentary thoughts. When I am painting words come flowing through onto the canvas expressing the essence of my inner state.
My work is based strongly on an emotional level, through layering and in particular through my use of colour. Intense searing reds to rich golden yellows, the rawness of these pigments symbolize a reflection of what is inside.
I build my work up from a response to an idea. A concept or feel of a painting will enter my mind and it may be executed immediately or it might even stay there for a while, slowly manifesting away until the right moment when it is ready to be poured onto canvas. From that it naturally evolves toward the last brushstroke.
