My early professional career was centred on teaching children at Primary level. I expanded my degree to encompass “Special Education”, and accordingly was very much involved with expression and nurturing.
My husband and I have three beautiful children. I think I project through them in some way in my work as I am continually inspired by them. It was, I believe this interaction that leaned me toward a development of art as a tool to express the emotions of young ones.
Interestingly my Great Uncle, Roy Opie was an artist, he was a founding member of Monsalvat and his art has been shown at various times in many Galleries, even overseas. Perhaps it is genetic?
I have been painting now for many years, I paint for both children and adults and exhibit my work in high profile galleries in Melbourne and New South Wales and have painted commissions for many clients locally and internationally.
My paintings celebrate the joy found in everyday moments in life. By noticing the beauty in simple things, concepts spring from almost anywhere. These thoughts are then sketched and when inspiration takes me, put on canvas and layered upon by various fabrics, papers and words. It is this use of mixed media that has enhanced and individualised my figurative, naive style.
I love to paint with loud music playing, quite often dancing at the same time and incorporating some other favourites of mine; coffee, wine and food.
I am sure it shows, I really enjoy creating, a part of me is brought to life and captured on canvas.
