It's All About EVE in the Windows

It's All About EVE in the Windows

Aug 30, 2010

It is my hope that my paintings speak for themselves.
My aim is to invite the viewer to notice and interpret the nuances in the girls' poise and interactions based on what they see and feel. Once the painting leaves my studio I prefer that as people connect with the work they adopt their own view of what the work means to them. I love the idea of a work re-inventing itself once it's out in the world .My inspiration comes from my surroundings, my experience and observations of the female poise.
 On a personal note:
Thank you to everybody who has bought or expressed an appreciation for my work. I realize my work doesn't please everybody but there would be something wrong with it if it did. My dream is to paint and present my work to you as long as I can; My objective is to continue to explore and to
always improve; a very wise artist and mentor once told me that the value of the painting you are working on at the moment is measured by what it has to offer the next painting you do. This would mean I could go on forever... and there is nothing in the world that I would rather be doing.

JONI DENNIS A New Beginning........

JONI DENNIS A New Beginning........

Aug 14, 2010

I can’t remember a beginning, it seems like it’s been that way for ever; drawing and painting.  As a teenager I painted images on my bedroom walls, then I dyed the carpet. Eventually I began painting on canvas, which humored my parents and that led me to formal study.
A degree in graphic design led to fulltime career in design and advertising.  Engrossing as it was I still found time to paint and during this time I developed a bias to large works.
Now as a full time painter I pursue the challenge to create work that provoke.  My subject is all natural, but my interpretation is unique.  I love colour, contrast and texture and the challenge they present.
My work continually changes.  I see subject matter in every vista and I see many interpretations in each scene.  Entertaining and stimulating it evokes a feeling of warmth and contribution.  I’m in love with what I do and that’s a privilege.
Brett Whitely called it “a difficult pleasure’ -  it is!  And it’s addictive and exhilarating.

A Beautiful Day -CHERYL PETERSEN

A Beautiful Day -CHERYL PETERSEN

Jul 27, 2010

Cheryl studied Graphic Design at Monash University in 1998 as a mature age student and majored in illustration.

After leaving the University she worked both as a freelance illustrator and a jewellery designer for various companies.

As an illustrator she worked on several magazines and books such as:
1) “Willis and the Echo” written by Craig Wellington and published by Hyland House.
2) ”Jack the Giant Killer” published by Pan McMillan.
3) A selection of Hans Christian Anderson stories published by Pan McMillan.
4) Various children’s poetry books and book covers for Reed Books.
5) Various magazines and brochures.

As a child Cheryl was always writing and drawing and eventually took up painting on canvas. Most of her works are bright and colourful with girls, flowers, unicorns, mermaids, butterflies and etc.

“Mostly I paint to my moods. My best works seem to happen naturally when I am totally absorbed in the moment. If I feel like painting the whole canvas black I will and then just see what happens next….no planning, no contriving…just letting it flow. Not all my works are bright and happy. Sometimes they can be dark and sometimes even sinister. I try not to control my work too much because it may lose its spontaneity. I think it’s very important to be a good artist technically, but it’s just as important to be able to create freely and originally from the heart.”

JULIA CARTER

Suburban is thrilled to announce the first exhibition in Melbourne of

award-winning Australian artist Julia Carter.

Julia lives on Queensland’s beautiful SunshineCoast, with her studio hidden away amidst tranquil acreage, where she draws a great deal of her inspiration.

Originally from
England, where she received her honours degree in sculpture, Julia has returned to the visual arts, following an eight-year teaching career. Her passion and dedication to painting have already rewarded her with a great deal of success, with her paintings being sold widely interstate and overseas.

Julia’s talent ranges from traditional breath-taking landscapes, sensual embellished nudes to contemporary mixed media abstracts, with bold colours and a vibrant energy, which connects all her work.

With her playful experimental approach, and energetic optimistic attitude towards life, her artwork celebrates the world in which she lives and conveys an overwhelming “joie de vivre” to every viewer.

'Bay Dreaming'

'Bay Dreaming'

'Bay Dreaming'

Stella paints in a contemporary realist style. Her works are figurative, evocative landscapes in oils on canvas. Influences on her work are eclectic and unobtrusive, from classical art, to modern artists including Edward Hopper and David Hockney, and some contemporary Australian figurative painters.  Her landscapes offer unique, slightly dreamlike and memorable interpretations of familiar Bayside places. In this series, Stella seeks to capture the unusual sense of space, serenity, and luminosity that characterizes this often gentler portion of the ocean.   The wide horizon, the bay’s sea walls and wharves, and the meeting points of sky and jetty are a special focus. Figures in these landscapes appear as individuals, captured in water-side moments, of pleasure and companionship, or quiet and solitude. These compositions explore the Bay’s bright visual dynamics or darker, more complex moods.

Grant Anthony Cohen

Grant’s works are able to be viewed from afar and up close evincing two different emotions and reactions. From a distance, the works seem to blend in together to create a harmonious interior scene.  However up close things change quite dramatically. A sense of intense repeating pattern work and his eye for detail overwhelms the viewer.

"Now more than ever I am attracted to the peace I find within nature, hence I use photographs that I take of landscapes as the initial inspirational ingredient in my work. The landscapes I evolve from these photographs take on a life of their own as they become my “mind” landscapes, and colour my most powerful tool in my quest to create refuges for my own mind within the manufacturing of my works.I am also inspired and extremely fascinated by natural phenomenon like volcanos, icebergs, glaciers and bushfires. Other places that motivate me to paint images with movement and texture is the ocean, overall the colours in my paintings create an expression of mood, peace, and power."

First Melbourne show for Queensland Artist JME Pool

See JME's latest work in the Suburban windows from 7th October 2008.

JME Pool’s work is a mixture of thoughts, memories and moral commentary surrounding the child and childhood. This centres on the idea of primordial evil and whether we are born with this evil inherent within us. Elements of humor and symbolism are an important aspect of JME’s work. Humor works to soften the moral commentary and develop recourse.

What say you of art?
Who’s imagery is so,
that every drop of its delicious paint,
By virtue of its presence,
is to present and impact a meal,
Both sumptuous and filling.

Entrée of colours and textures,
Can only give way to a dinner of substance and form,
Dessert, tantalizing totality,
Sweetness lingering as to imbue its essence,
To brand the imagination,
enriching the senses.

Lisa Cox was born and raised in the Bayside area. She is married and lives with her husband and three young children.
Qualified as a Primary and Special education teacher, Lisa spent 10 years in the teaching profession before leaving to raise her family and to focus on developing as an artist. Her style has evolved over recent years but Lisa’s time spent working with young children can still be seen as a positive influence in her work.
Lisa has successfully exhibited at many Art Shows, Galleries and Exhibitions including most recently the ART Melbourne 2008 Exhibition.

Lisa’s style has been described as ‘naive’ and ‘mythological’ and depicts a playful and joyful search for identity. The rich use of colour and texture within her paintings helps to bring them to life. This allows the viewer to engage and identify with her art, giving it such broad appeal.

Vibrant , colourful works by Local Bayside artist.

'Painting is my key to the secret garden, my way down the rabbit hole, my looking glass.

Coloring in at school started it.

Transforming a blank piece of paper into amazing colors has always struck me as magical. Over the years painting has filled me with a sense of accomplishment, and it has proven a most amendable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality.

I love the creative power which painting gives me. I paint from the inside out. Though I work as deliberately as I can, consciously employing traditional techniques, my unconscious is project manager. The concreteness of the activity frees my imagination and it “sees” each piece into existence........'

Mothers Day Week Exhibition

'Tranquility'

The colorful and vibrant creations of Katrina Read, born and raised in Australia, reflect the beauty of the natural landscape for which the continent is so renowned. Indeed, the various topographies of her home have greatly influenced Read’s art, as has her experience in other creative realms such as acting and writing. Working with acrylic on canvas, she depicts the essence of her subject matter—be it a windswept beach or peacefully swimming koi—with brushstrokes sometimes feathered, other times crisp. Light plays a crucial role in these images, creating a sense of infinite space, liveliness, and depth in each piece. Above all, in work Read strives to “capture a sense of calm and peace” that connect with the viewer on an emotional level.

Katrina Read’s paintings have been exhibited throughout Australia, Asia, and North America and have featured in several leading design magazines and publications. She currently works and resides in Australia.

Bird ….. Transparent series

1st to 15th April 2008

'This exhibition is an extension of my bird series…..
I have been experimenting with new colours and textures- mixing different paints to look for that Ever beautiful colour….

I work on the background then look for mistakes or flaws in the paint texture to build on the bird story……

I’m attracted firstly by the colour and am always looking for that new combination…….colours that work well together.

I build up layers of texture and work in the colour of the background.

Scale is important…… the colours I’m looking for work well on a larger scale.'
